Radical Heroes: Crimson City Crisis Kicks off Kickstarter

Retro returns yet again

Radical Heroes: Crimson City Crisis - Gameplay

Developers Apogee Software and Mad Unicorn Games have officially announced their partnership as they kick off their Kickstarter for their latest project; Radical Heroes: Crimson City Crisis.

Radical Heroes: Crimson City Crisis is set up to be a 2.5D brawler, and a love letter of sorts to the IPs of the 1980s and 1990s, drawing inspiration from such series as River City Ransom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Streets of Rage, and more.

Radical Heroes follows the story of “bald, hulking every-man” Diesel as he fights injustice (mostly literally) while looking for the reason behind the rapidly-increasing crime rate within his beloved city. Despite the somewhat gritty-sounding story however, Radical Heroes doesn’t take itself too seriously. Rather, the game adopts a rather unique viewpoint that sees its characters as action figures and levels as Playsets.

The gameplay in its entirety is made up of six unique Playsets, filled with a diverse and zany cast of characters. What’s more is that nearly every character is playable. Were you that kid who always did things when playing with your action figures like saying “but what if THIS guy battled THIS guy this time”? I bet that you were. Anyway, you can do that again (don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone).

While much of the work on Radical Heroes is completed, Apogee Software and Mad Unicorn Games are attempting to raise the last bit of funding needed through the ever-popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter. With a $25,000 goal to reach and only a month to do so, the minds behind Radical Heroes are offering a nice list of rewards in order to entice perspective backers. Reward tiers begin at $10 for a copy of Radical Heroes, climbing fromsuch tiers as the $20 game + soundtrack combo and $40 game + soundtrack + wallpaper + comic bundle all the way up to the two $1500 tiers which allow backers to design heroes and ending all the way at the top with the $3000 design-your-own Playset tier. Supplies are limited for many of the reward tiers so those interested may want to check their official Kickstarter page sooner than later, and you can do so right here!

Starting out with nothing more than a Game Boy and a copy of Donkey Kong Land, Kenny has happily been gaming for almost his entire life. Easily-excitable and a bit on the chatty side, Kenny has always been eager to share gaming-related thoughts, opinions, and news with others and has been doing so on Hey Poor Player since 2014 and has previously worked with both PKMNcast and SCATcast. Although his taste in gaming spreads across a wide number of companies and consoles, Kenny holds a particular fondness for Nintendo handheld consoles. He is also very proud of his amiibo collection. You can also find him on Twitter @SuperBayleef talking about video games and general nonsense. Some of his favorite games include Tetris Attack, Pokémon Black Version 2, The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Yo-kai Watch, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Kirby's Dreamland 3, Mega Man X, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (among many others).
