Meet Thimbleweed Park’s aspiring game developer, Delores
Ron Gilbert’s Thimbleweed Park is shaping up to be one hell of a spiritual successor to the hit LucasArts adventures of yesteryear. Pitched as Maniac Mansion with a dash of The X-Files, the game looks like it’ll be giving players a dose of classic SCUMM-powered goodness when it launches next year.
Today during Gamescom, we get a fresh look at the game with a new character trailer introducing Delores Edmund. An aspiring game developer, Delores is one of five playable characters in Thimbleweed Park. Check it out as she introduces herself in a foyer that should look very familiar to anyone who’s ever played through Maniac Mansion.
The story of Thimbleweed Park is set in a town nestled along a desert highway, Thimbleweed Park. The town once boasted an opulent hotel, a vibrant business district, and the state’s largest pillow factory. Now it teeters on the edge of oblivion, stinking of a desperate longing to be what it once was. When a dead body turns up in the river, the federal agents sent to investigate are immediately suspicious of each other. Then a cursed clown, a jaded heiress, and the ghost of a pillow salesman get mixed up in the case and things start to get really weird.
Much like the game it draws its inspiration from, players will switch between these five playable characters as they explore the strange town of Thimbleweed Park and unravel its secrets.
Thimbleweed Park is slated to be released in early 2017 for Xbox One, Windows, Mac, and Linux. iOS, Android, with other platforms to be announced at a later date.
