Fire Pro Wresting Returns
Fire Pro Wrestling Returns is a stark contrast to anything else on our list, both visually and in terms of gameplay. Appearing on the PS2, this game employs 2D sprites instead of 3D character models. Don’t scoff, the 2D look allows for, to take a page out of Donald Trump’s book, a staggeringly “yuge” roster, and the ability to create any wrestler living or dead. There are so many customization options here. Everything is changeable, from head to toe, and thanks to the faceless sprites you don’t have to spend hours getting the nose and eyes just right. You can also make your own rings, referees, even your very own wrestling federation.
You have all your standard match types here, too, like single, tag, and cage. However, there are also match types never before seen in a WWE, TNA, or WCW title, like barbed wire rope matches that are wired up to bombs, death matches wherein you can hit your opponent with fluorescent lights, and UFC style cage matches. They don’t feel tacked on either, each match is unique and fun to play.
The gameplay is also vastly different. First-time players will have great difficulty overcoming the learning curve, but give it a few bouts and you will be taking your friends to Suplex City in no time. It is also just as enjoyable to make a few wrestlers and then sit back and watch them fight it out, calling the action like you are Jim Ross or Jerry the King Lawler. Fire A Pro Wresting Returns is truly one of the best.
