Doom 64 is often regarded as the black sheep of the Doom family. It’s by no means bad, but it has a considerably different look and feel, with redesigned monsters and weapons featured in a campaign not seen anywhere else. It resonates with fans and there have been unofficial ports to the PC over the years, but now the affair is set to get the “brutal” treatment.
Made by the same person responsible for Brutal Doom, Brutal Doom 64 is a mod that pretty much does what you’d expect: ups the gore, alters enemy behavior and changes the weapons to create a familiar-yet-fresh experience. The mod even aims to re-add monsters and elements cut from the original game due to time and cartridge constraints! Though still in the alpha stage, it looks very promising and now there’s a new video showing off nearly a half-hour of gameplay footage. Check it out below and be sure to visit the project’s official page to keep up with proceedings.
