#19- Grim Fandango Remastered

grimfandango

Growing up, I played all sorts of kid-friendly adventure games. Titles such as Putt-Putt Enters the Race, Clue Finders, and Pajama Sam filled my childhood with endless wonders and brain-bending puzzles. Since then, I have fallen out of the Adventure genre, at least in the traditional sense. I am still really into story-based games like Telltale games and Life is Strange, though they are debatably not considered true adventure games. Enter Grim Fandango Remastered, a re-release of a game that I had heard as being hailed as one of the best adventure games of all time. Curious, I gave it a go; boy, does this game deserve it’s reputation. Grim Fandango is one of the most unique stories I have ever seen in a video game; set over the course of 4 years, our hero Manny Calavera attempts to thwart the corruption of the underworld. While the visuals haven’t held up extremely well, and some of the puzzles are nigh-impossible to figure out alone, Grim Fandango Remastered is certainly a title that defined and will continue to define the adventure genre.

Caleb has been playing games since he was born... in the middle of the PlayStation 1 Era. Despite his young age, he enjoys all sorts of games from all sorts of eras, but he does prefer the PlayStation brand over everything else. Eager to talk about games to anyone and everyone who will listen, Caleb is excited to be a part of the HPP team! You can find him on twitter @caleb4tribe.
