#19- Grim Fandango Remastered
Growing up, I played all sorts of kid-friendly adventure games. Titles such as Putt-Putt Enters the Race, Clue Finders, and Pajama Sam filled my childhood with endless wonders and brain-bending puzzles. Since then, I have fallen out of the Adventure genre, at least in the traditional sense. I am still really into story-based games like Telltale games and Life is Strange, though they are debatably not considered true adventure games. Enter Grim Fandango Remastered, a re-release of a game that I had heard as being hailed as one of the best adventure games of all time. Curious, I gave it a go; boy, does this game deserve it’s reputation. Grim Fandango is one of the most unique stories I have ever seen in a video game; set over the course of 4 years, our hero Manny Calavera attempts to thwart the corruption of the underworld. While the visuals haven’t held up extremely well, and some of the puzzles are nigh-impossible to figure out alone, Grim Fandango Remastered is certainly a title that defined and will continue to define the adventure genre.
