Gravity Rush was the “Chips Ahoy” of the Vita- the promise and concept doesn’t live up to the product. While I enjoyed my time with Gravity Rush immensely, it wasn’t the system seller that we all thought it would be. I do have to give props for the pure originality in this game; Who would have thought that a mechanic in which you manipulate gravity could work so smoothly? In a handheld, no less? Developed by Sony’s Studio Japan, this was one of the few AAA Vita games made by a first party studio. It is clear that they were still figuring out the ins and outs of the handheld, and the gameplay occasionally suffers for it. The combat is a bit repetitive, and the locales, while beautiful, feel a little samey. That said, it was so cool seeing the origin story of a brand new superhero. I can’t wait to see how the developers improve the formula with Gravity Rush 2– I just wish that it was coming out on the Vita!
