Nintendo focused on other priorities
You may have forgotten all about it but Pikmin 4 WAS officially announced last September. But it’s been nearly a year since then and we’ve heard nothing about it. Usually, that’s a bad sign but Shigeru Miyamoto himself as made a point of assuring fans of the series that the game is still happening. It’s just that Nintendo’s been kind of busy.Miyamoto, who was the one who created the Pikmin series, said that Pikmin 4 wasn’t always been the highest priority at Nintendo at the moment, which is why news on the title has been so scarce. However, if Mr Miyamoto is to be believed, development should hopefully be starting soon.
“You know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit [Pikmin 4] into that list,” he said. “But we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.” Considering that Nintendo is going through a bit of a transitional phase at the moment, with it now making the jump to mobile titles and working on next year’s NX console, it’s understandable as to why Pikmin 4 has been put on the back-burner for a while.
It should be noted that when it was announced back in 2015, Miyamoto did say that it was “actually very close to completion.” Could this mean that Pikmin 4 will be an NX launch title? Or, at the very least, one of the first NX titles? Or maybe even one the last Wii U games? At this point, it’s purely speculation.
