10 Shmups That Deserve More Attention

10: Blue Wish Resurrection

We’ll kick off the list with a more popular freeware shmup that’s appeared on many a veteran’s download list. Blue Wish Resurrection is heavily influenced by CAVE’s titles and features a notably Ketsui style of scoring. Despite having several modes of difficulty, this one is geared towards skilled players as you’ll need to neutralize enemy bullets and exploit proximity bonuses. Although lacking somewhat in polish, it’s a tiny, satisfying download which will reward those who invest the most time into it.

9: Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION

Another tribute to classic CAVE-like shooters, Crimzon Clover manages to be simultaneously accessible to newcomers yet familiar to genre veterans. The amount of on-screen objects at any given time is absolutely insane and you’ll need to train your eyes to make sense of the visual overload, yet it’s all in the name of good fun. With neat gimmicks like enemies smashing the bottom of the screen and having your ship get trapped in a pentagonal laser barrier, you’ll find yourself appreciating the thought put into this game. The multiple ships and assorted unlockables will also keep you coming back for more.
