Here’s How Resident Evil Would Have Looked As A 90’s Arcade Beat ‘Em Up

Resident Evil’s Jill and Chris look great in 16-bits

Resident Evil

Survival Horror games are great and all, but sometimes it’s nice to just ditch the tension and go back to the tried-and-true method of cracking some skulls. DeviantArt user Juniorbunny  understands this dilemma, and decided to put his considerable talents on display in a recent piece, rendering a scene from the original Resident Evil as a classic arcade beat-’em-up in stunning 16-bit glory.

Done in the style of Capcom’s CPS2-powered arcade brawlers such as Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Battle Circuit, this nostalgic tribute to the debut PlayStation and Saturn classic showcases Resident Evil’s leading zombie-killers, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in the iconic Spencer Mansion as they fight off a zombie. I wonder if that’s the Shield Key lying on the floor behind the pair of S.T.A.R.S. operatives?

While we know it’ll likely never happen, here’s hoping this awesome homage to the pioneering horror title is enough to inspire Capcom to get to work on bringing a similar release to PSN, the Xbox Games Store and Steam!

  • this is a silly article man, and weak picture!
you don’t need devianart to make this!

just download Mugen, and character pack of Chris and Jill and zombie, pic a stage and props and that’s it! the zombie is from Marvel vs Capcom 2:/

    • Francis DiPersio

Sure, you could download MUGEN or Beats Of Rage and recreate the image yourself using fan-made assets or sprites from other Capcom games (such as the zombie pictured), or you could just simmer down and enjoy the pic for what it is – a loving nod to Capcom’s classic arcade brawlers and the Resident Evil series.

I have a feeling most of the people who skim this piece would prefer the latter.

  • Nightphoenix

Yep,…sure would. But completely redone from the ground up with darker sprites boarding something like Batman the Animated series for SNES or X-Men Clone Wars – Sega Genesis.
