Microsoft Shows off Some Strategy at Gamescom 2015
A sequel to 2009’s real-time strategy game, Halo Wars has been announced and is on it’s way to Xbox One and Windows 10 in fall of 2016. Halo Wars 2 was the finishing touch to Microsoft’s, Xbox Gamescom conference in Cologne, Germany today.
Halo Wars 2 comes from current Halo developer 343 Industries and Creative Assembly, the team behind the Total War series and Alien: Isolation. The original Halo Wars was the last game produced by developer Ensemble Studios, who actually shut down one month before the game’s release. After the studios closing, founder Tony Goodman said that, “the original Halo developer, Bungie, was never into the idea of an RTS set in the Halo universe.”
In April of 2014, there were rumors circulating about the possibility of a sequel to the original game, after Microsoft submitted a job posting for an established, AAA strategy franchise at its Redmond, Washington, location. The posting describes the game as follows: “Microsoft Studios is looking for a highly experienced senior games developer to help build and lead the team for a new AAA title within an established and well-loved strategy game franchise.”
What are your thoughts on Halo Wars? Let us know in the comments below, I for one am excited to see Microsoft giving this sleeper hit a chance at redemption. Let’s hope the fans put their money where their mouth is next year.
