Stone Cold Is Cover Star For WWE2K16

It’s Austin 3:16 for 2K16!

There’s an exciting development for those of us who loved wrestling in its heyday between the late nineties and early noughties: Stone Cold Steve Austin will be the cover star for WWE2K16. The long-running annually released series has featured many great luminaries of the staged grappling arts such as John Cena, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and CM Punk. As is often the case, the choice of cover star reflects a focus of the game itself. According to the designers, Austin contributed to the creative process of the game. Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K had the following to say

“Stone Cold Steve Austin’s iconic style, unmistakable personality and worldwide reverence from the WWE Universe make him the ideal fit for WWE 2K16… Not only will Austin grace the video game’s cover, but he’s involved in shaping its creative direction. Through his numerous contributions, inclusion on the largest roster in franchise history and the game’s to-be-announced features, WWE 2K16 is certain to put everyone on notice.”

Stone Cold Steve Austin is an interesting choice for the cover of 2K’s latest WWE title as the bald-headed Texan wrestled his last match in 2003, having since starred in movies such as The Expendables. Austin has also hosted WWE shows such as Tough Enough, and hosts podcasts featuring interviews with other high profile wrestling personalities. The hard-drinking, hard-fighting Texas Rattlesnake himself had this to say:

“I’ve had the privilege of working with 2K to support the WWE 2K franchise, and now I’m absolutely honored to serve as the  WWE 2K16  cover Superstar,” said Stone Cold Steve Austin. “No disrespect to the previous and extremely deserving WWE 2K cover Superstars – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena – but it’s about time the franchise raised some hell with yours truly on the cover. I look forward to injecting a dose of ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ into this year’s game and overall campaign.”

Developed collaboratively by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, WWE 2K16  is currently scheduled for release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3 on October 27, 2015 in North America and October 30, 2015 internationally.

Jonathan is HeyPoorPlayer's token British person, so expect him to thoroughly exploit this by quoting Monty Python and saying things like "Pip, pip, toodly-whotsit!" for the delight of American readers. He likes artsy-fartsy games, RPGs and RPG-Hybrids (which means pretty much everything at this point). He used to write for He's also just realised how much fun it is to refer to himself in the third person like he's The Rock or something.
