Fallout Shelter sends the competition running for cover, tops global App Store charts
Since debuting on the App Store last week, Fallout Shelter, the post-nuclear strategy and simulation spinoff of Bethesda’s apocalyptic RPG for iOS devices has done exceptionally well. Within two days of the game’s launch on the iPhone and iPad, the game landed on the top-grossing chart, handily besting King’s Candy Crush as the App Store’s number three top-grossing app in the United States. Since then, the game has been listed among the highest grossing 5 releases in the App Store in 37 different countries.
And it doesn’t look like the game will be dethroned anytime soon. Bethesda Softworks today announced that Fallout Shelter, which has seen upwards of 70 million plays per day globally, has become the top downloaded game in 48 countries and the top downloaded app of any kind in 25 countries in the week since its release on the App Store.
“We play games on our phones all the time, and have always wanted to make one,” said Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios. “To have our first mobile game be enjoyed by so many is stunning. It just shows that gamers appreciate more depth and being treated fairly. It also shows people love Fallout as much as we do.”
Announced last week during Bethesda’s E3 showcase, Fallout Shelter puts players in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault. Build the perfect Vault from a variety of rooms, oversee your very own thriving community of Vault Dwellers, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland.
