A new kind of diva
Galapagos RPG and Idea Factory’s debut PlayStation 4 title Omega Quintet is almost upon us. See what this JRPG-idol simulation hybrid has in store for all would-be idolmasters.
As Takuto, you serve as the manager of the Verse Maidens, a quintet of idols out to fight an evil known as the “Beep.” The party consists of Otoha, Kyoka, Kanadeko, Nene, and Aria, each with their own personalities and abilities.
Battles play out in a turn-based fashion, albeit with a twist. Each battle offers the chance to offer a “Paired Defense,” which has Takuto stepping into a defensive role when timed correctly. Turn order can also be changed during its “Live Mode,” which can be used to form team attacks.
In true Galapagos RPG fashion, battles are over the top. Overkill attacks and combos that max out the damage counter are common, as is “costume destruction” that gradually transforms the Verse Maidens’ outfits from G to PG-13.
While there is plenty of turn-based combat and world-saving to be had, these idols are still divas at heart. With the PVS (Promotion Video System), the Verse Maidens can star in their own music videos. A list of custom moves, light waves, and effects can be chosen to make the perfect performance. PlayStation Move support is available, as is support for the PlayStation 4 camera.
Want to see more of what these Verse Maidens have in store? Omega Quintet will come out stateside for the PlayStation 4 on April 28, 2015.
