Nihon Falcom’s classic dungeon-crawler Brandish: The Dark Revenant to release on PSP and Vita next week
Are you ready to embark on a timeless adventure? XSEED Games has announced today announced that the dungeon-crawling action RPG adventure, Brandish: The Dark Revenant, will be available for digital download on January 13, 2015 in North America for the PSP for $19.99, and will also be compatible with the PlayStation Vita.
In Brandish, players take control of swordsman Ares Toraernos as he explores over 40 dangerous floors filled with fearsome monsters and an assortment of devious traps as he attempts to escape a long-forgotten underground labyrinth. During his quest Ares will encounter his arch-rival, the voluptuous sorceress Dela Delon, who’s just as interested in claiming the bounty on his head as she is in escaping the maze herself.
Developed by Ys and The Legend of Heroes developer Nihon Falcom, Brandish: The Dark Revenant features an innovative “world turning” mechanic, players will be immersed in a third person real-time dungeon-crawling adventure with a first person flair, dungeon walls rotating around their avatar as each corner is turned.
Originally released on a variety of platforms and Japanese PCs in the early ’90s including the FM Towns Marty, PC Engine CD and SNES, Brandish was rebuilt from the ground up when it saw its release on the Playstation Portable in Japan back in 2009. Now Western audiences will be able to experience this remastered dungeon-crawler that sports a highly polished recreation of the classic RPG’s ominous maps, cunning puzzles and lethal traps. No simple port, this re-imagined adventure brings to the table enhanced visuals, smoother gameplay, remastered boss fights, and a newly arranged score.
