Yes, this is real life. Everyone who’s been clamoring for “Super Smash Kart” or something of the like over the years are now getting something akin to that, in the form of new DLC for Mario Kart 8. Soon the hero of Hyrule himself, as well as the Animal Crossing villager and his assistant Isabelle, will be starting their engines and hitting the track, along with some additional Mario characters.

This new DLC (or AOC, as Nintendo’s EU site is referring to it) is divided into two packs, each containing three new characters, four new vehicles, and eight new tracks. Note that the core game has 16 tracks, a number doubled by picking up both packs. New tracks include Wario’s gold mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as tracks from both the Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing franchises.Downloading both, as a bundle or separately, also gets you eight different colors of Yoshi and Shy Guy, adding even more to the racers’  roster. The packs are listed for £7.00 each on the European Nintendo website.

Mario Kart 8 DLC

First comes the Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 pack, which includes a Skyward Sword-stylized Link, as well as Tanooki Mario from Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS and Cat Peach from Super Mario 3D World for Wii U. New vehicles include a kart modeled after the Blue Falcon from the F-Zero series. The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 pack will be available this November.

Second, the Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8 pack comes with two characters from the 3DS title that stole everyone’s hearts and souls last summer. The villager and Isabelle from Animal Crossing: New Leaf will both be playable, along with the skeletal Dry Bowser. Just like the other pack, this one includes four more vehicles and eight more tracks. The Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8 pack will be passing through your village in May 2015.

Despite being a ways off, both Mario Kart 8 DLC packs can be pre-ordered now. Will you be picking up just one, or both? What kinds of tracks are you hoping for? Check out our image gallery, and let us know in the comments!
