Beyond Good & Evil 2 Confirmed Beyond Teasing

Ubisoft finally goes beyond a doubt to confirm that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in the works.

In a statement today, Ubisoft finally announced the long-teased project of Beyond Good & Evil 2. This game is the long-anticipated sequel to 2003’s Beyond Good & Evil, a cult classic now two full generations behind us. The sequel has been teased in occasional bits and whisperings, as well as images like the above, since 2008, but only now has the project received official confirmation as something Ubisoft has cooking on the front burners.

The news came following the announcement that Michael Ancel, creator of both Beyond Good & Evil and the Rayman series, was leaving Ubisoft to found a 13-person group called Wild Sheep Studio, who already has a game in the works. It has now been clarified that Ancel will be dividing his time between Wild Sheep Studio and Ubisoft’s current projects.

“In addition to spending some of his time on this new venture, Michel is leading the creative development of select projects at Ubisoft Montpellier, including an extremely ambitious new title that is very close to his and the team’s heart,” Xavier Poix of Ubisoft said today.

“In many ways, BG&E is an inimitable game – it appeals to all generations of gamers and is an inspiration behind many of Ubisoft Montpellier’s past and future games.” Ubisoft told Eurogamer in a statement today. ” It’s still far too early to give many details about this new title, but what we can say is that while Michel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they’re developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative and exceptional game. The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we’ll have more to share later, as it progresses.”

We’ve gotten occasional glimpses at what would be headed our way in BG&E 2, with the last substantial one being this teaser from 2012. Looks pretty fishy to me. Stay tuned for more on the most exciting gaming revival in some time, as it develops.
