Borderlands developer announces Battleborn, a MOBA-inspired hero-shooter
Gearbox Software announced yesterday a fresh new IP due to land on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC by early next year. Battleborn is being described as a “triple-A hero-shooter experience” developed by the team behind the mega popular Borderlands series. The stylish shooter combines fantastical visuals and high-energy combat with Gearbox’s signature blend of excellent cooperative gameplay mechanics. Set in a sci-fi universe, Battleborn features a host of playable legendary hero characters and is set in the distant future. The game will be narrative-driven, and will include a campaign that supports cooperative play, along with competitive multilayer matches.
“If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter,” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created.”
“Battleborn represents the combined might of the development and publishing teams behind the success of Borderlands 2, which to date has sold-in more than 9-million units worldwide and has become 2K’s highest-selling game of all time,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The size, scope, and ambition of Battleborn are unlike any other title in 2K’s history, and the result is a defining next-gen co-operative experience.”
Battleborn is slated to be released by March, 31st 2015 (during Take Two’s 2016 fiscal year) for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
