Tecmo’s Fatal Frame series, known as Project Zero in Japan and Europe, is getting a new haunt in the Wii U. Tecmo Koei and Nintendo announced that they are currently co-developing a new title in the well-known horror series, to make its specterly way to Nintendo’s tablet-based console. No release date or title has been announced for this new apparition. Fatal Frame is a survival horror series celebrated for its originality, in which players must defeat ghosts by taking pictures of them. Who knew the dead wee so camera shy?
Tecmo Koei also announced plans to expand the Fatal Frame series through multimedia. A live-action Fatal Frame film is in the works, starring Seventeen Magazine models Ayami Nakajo and Aoi Morikawa, and directed by Mari Asato. There’s also an original novel coming out in August by Japanese horror author Eiji Otsuka, and a comic by Shin Kibayashi, better known by his pen name Tadashi Agi.
The last Fatal Frame title, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, launched on the Wii in Japan in 2008, never seeing a Western release. A remake of Fatal Frame II hit the Wii in 2012 in Japan and Europe, but the willowy specter never drifted towards North America. Here’s hoping Fatal Frame will return with the spooky arrival of Fatal Frame on Wii U!
