Ghost Recon Online rebranded; hits Steam in April

Ghost Recon Online, the free-to-play shooter from Ubisoft Singapore, is coming to Steam in April following a rename — the game is now being called “Ghost Recon Phantoms,” Ubisoft announced on their blog today (

Forgot Ghost Recon Online existed? You could be forgiven for that frankly grievous oversight. It came out in beta a little over a year and a half ago, and to be honest hasn’t been on a lot of peoples’ radar. Ubisoft aims to change that with the Steam release next month, citing an overhauled graphics engine, more weapons and unlocks, and a pretty detailed development road map that they plan to reveal in the coming weeks.


I’m a sucker for a good free shooter, so I’ll definitely be checking this one out. I played a lot of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 when it was still popular.
