Arrowhead Studios resurrect’s Midway’s classic arcade dungeon crawler.
Warner Bros. Interactive today announced that Arrowhead Studios will be resurrecting the classic dungeon-crawling series, Gauntlet.
This “completely modernized” reboot of the celebrated arcade series will be available this summer via Steam for PC, offering full support for SteamOS and the upcoming Steam Machines slated to arrive later this year. Gauntlet will be the first title in the upcoming WB Games Vault, their direct-to-digital service that will deliver paid games based on the most popular Warner Bros. and Midway porperties along with new, original IP, across multiple digital networks.
“With Gauntlet we combined the arcade style of the original game with an entirely new look and feature set that includes emergent, local and online four-player gameplay,” said David Haddad, Senior Vice President, Digital Games, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Gauntlet will be the first title in the WB Games Vault portfolio, which will provide us with an opportunity to access emerging talent within the game development community and match unique skills and experience with our extensive library of properties.”
True to the classic games in the venerated dungeon-delving series, players will be able to select from four character classes including the Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, and Elf, each of which has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Players will explore the game’s procedurally generated labyrinths, battling a variety of menacing monsters as they seek the maze’s exit.
