Dangan Ronpa is one of those things that you hear about on the internet without really getting a clear hold on what it is you’re hearing about. Despite being someone fully plugged into the circuits of Tumblr, Reddit and Twitter, I still didn’t really know what it was myself until a few months ago, when an English port of the game was announced, at which point I said “Oh, it’s a GAME?”
Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a sort of mystery game. I stars a cast of characters similar to those in the Persona series, all troubled but talented teenagers with a wide variety of backgrounds. These kids have all come together at a new school that they had planned on attending, only to discover that they are entrapped in a deadly and bizarre game. The only way for anyone to gain their freedom is to successfully get away with murdering another student, without being figured out. If the truth is discovered, however, you, too, will be executed. The game and it’s sequel have developed a huge fan following for their inventive stories, which have been converted into screenshot comic formats you can find online.
Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, originally released on the PSP in Japan, will be coming to Vita in February 2014, published by NIS America. Get ready to pull the trigger!
