You may remember us covering Nelly Cootalot 2: The Fowl Fleet in Jay’s recent article 6 Kickstarter Games Worth the Kick (And a Few Already Pummeled to Success) but if you happen to be new to the site or missed Jay’s article, here’s a bit of info about Nelly and her latest adventure.
Nelly Cootalot is the product from the mind of filmmaker and animator Alasdair Beckett-King. King wrote and developed Nelly’s first adventure, Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! as a gift for his girlfriend, who just so happens to be who the character is modeled after. Released as Freeware in 2007, Spoonbeaks Ahoy! put players in control of titular character N elly Cootalot: pirate heroine and defender of endangered and adorable creatures. The game was a point and click adventure with an emphasis on seafaring shenanigans and humorous dialog, not unlike a certain PC title from the days of yore that had it’s share of monkeys and islands. Spoonbeaks Ahoy! netted an impressive 80 out of 100 score from Magazine PC Format, along with 5 game awards on the Adventure Game Studio website.
Nelly Cootalot 2: The Fowl Fleet continues the nautical hijinks of its predecessor. The story revolves around Nelly stopping the evil Baron Widebeard, who has captured and brainwashed an entire fleet of birds and are at the mercy of his every whim. What does the Baron want from this avian menace? Nelly sure would like to know, and it’s up to her to uncover his plot before…well, whatever happens when a crazed megalomaniac has an army of feathery minions at his disposal.
