The NES Turns 25: HPP’s 25 Most Memorable NES Games

A trip down memory lane.

This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System’s North American release. Undoubtedly the most influential system of our time, the NES single-handedly reinvigorated the video game industry and gave birth to a stable of franchises that are still embraced by gamers today. Released at a time that the video game industry was considered dead in the water, The Nintendo Entertainment System launched a one-time hanafuda card company into the most successful developer and console manufacturer of all time.

Frank has been the caffeine-fueled evil overlord of HeyPoorPlayer since 2008. He speaks loudly and carries a big stick to keep the staff of the HPP madhouse in check. A collector of all things that blip and beep, he has an extensive collection of retro consoles and arcade machines crammed into his house. Before founding the site, Frank was a staff writer for the blogs Gaming Judgement and NuclearGeek.
