10 Animes That Should Be Adapted for TV in the West

Anime Adapted for All Genres

No major movie studio will back the production of a film without the involvement of major talent behind it. That’s the unfortunate fact of the film industry, and has been the thorn in the sides of those wanting a motion picture adaptation of their favorite animes for the Western audience.

At one point a Cowboy Bebop film was about to go into production with Keanu Reeves playing the main protagonist, Spike Spiegel. After some rewrites, the studio didn’t want to invest the amount of money it would take to create the universe around Bebop. Even Akira can’t seem to find its footing after being in development hell for over a decade, and that is even with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to it at one point. Death Note was another property that Hollywood looked into, but found that there may not be much interest in the film adaptation, but thanks to television we can now have a better chance to watch an anime adaptation and have it be a quality show.

We are in the golden age of television and thanks to Netflix, Death Note has started production. With that, I felt the need to look back at the anime shows I have watched in my life and pick the ones I felt would lend themselves well to an American adaptation for live action television in no particular order.

The choices that have been made were to show all the different genres that could be covered. This in no way represents what I feel are the best anime properties overall, rather just ones that could be successful based on demographics, genres, and what I have seen personally.

What shows would you like to see become live action adaptations in the West, if any? Let us know in the comments! Anyways, onto the list!

Stuck in a perpetual state of daydreaming usually, I like to think about a TARDIS coming to get me, or handling a real lightsaber. Other than that, I am an old pop culture enthusiast that enjoys film, games, and anime...probably to an unhealthy degree.
