5 PlayStation Franchises We Need To See On PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR is set to release this holiday season, opening the door to new gameplay possibilities on Sony’s current-gen console. Slated for a release this October, the $400 headset will be home to a wide variety of titles, including Namco’s stomach-churning Ace Combat 7, the trigger-happy shooter The London Heist and the sublimely surreal Rez Infinite, just to name a few. While all of these games and the rest of the PS VR certainly has us excited, there are more than a few franchises we’d love to see take advantage of the benefits of Sony’s immersive new hardware.

Here are five franchises from PlayStation’s past that we want to see make their way to PlayStation VR.

5. Jumping Flash!

Developed by Exact and Ultra, “Jumping Flash!” put players in control of the robotic rabbit “Robbit” (try saying that three times fast) as he explores a variety of unique worlds in search of missing jet pods scattered by antagonist character Baron Aloha. One of the earliest releases for Sony’s 32-bit powerhouse, the game made fantastic use of the system’s polygon processing power, creating intricate 3D environments that floored players when the game released back in 1995.

The game’s major defining feature was Robbit’s ability to triple jump to obscene heights, leading players on a vertigo-inducing descent to the various moving platforms below. While we haven’t seen an entry in the series since Jumping Flash 2 bounded onto the PlayStation twenty years ago, I can’t help but feel a new entry in the series would be simply incredible using Sony’s VR technology. Just imagine the sensation of soaring through the air, gazing onto the ever-shifting platforms below as you fall hundreds of feet towards your target. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine a much better fit for the platform than Jumping Flash!. That said, while it’s very unlikely, we’ve got our carrots crossed hoping Robbit bounds onto the PlayStation 4 with a third entry in the long-forgotten series.
