Nintendo Direct Round-up

Today’s Nintendo Direct started off with Reggie talking to Bill Trinen… through an elevator. Yes, Reggie has that power.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Nintendo had a brand new trailer for us, showcasing Hyrule, its interesting inhabitants, and Link’s new ability. The game is packed full of dungeons, puzzles, and bosses; just like any Zelda game.

Of course, there are new characters in A Link Between Worlds! The first character we’re shown is Irene, a witch who aids you in your quest. After a certain point, you can call her magic broom to pick you up in either world, and have it fly you to discovered weathervanes. Since it IS a magic broom, it can travel between the two worlds at will. The next character is Seres, the daughter of the sanctuary’s priest. She is the perfect target for a Zelda villain. Bill also talks about a side quest involving a bottle filled with Milk, and a milk bar just like from Majora’s Mask.

One of the features talked about is the new streetpass functionality. You can create your own Shadow Link that sends to other people via streetpass. The bounty on its head depends on the items you use and the amount of hearts you have. You can find Shadow Links around the world and fight them to obtain the bounty.

Also, Nintendo took a moment to give us a peek of the great looking Zelda XL, launching alongside the game. The system will have A Link Between Worlds available in the bundle as a downloadable game.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, along with the Zelda-themed 3DS XL, will launch November 22nd.

Mario Party Island Tour

Zelda isn’t the only game coming out on November 22nd! In fact, there are two Mario games launching alongside of it, but we’ll get to the other one later.

Mario Party Island Tour, the party game featuring a wide variety of Mario characters, has two different options of playing the game. Using download play, you can connect with three other local 3DS owners who don’t own the game, and play on all 7 new game boards. You can even play all 80+ mini-games with download play, that all have portability in mind. Remember, with download play, only ONE person needs to own the game. The other option is a single player mode where you take on Bowser’s castle of 30 floors, packed full of mini-games and bosses to fight.

The game will also come with Streetpass options. When enabled, pass by another owner and you can face off against their streetpass data the next time you play the game.

Mario Party Island Tour will be available November 22nd.

Bravely Default

Bravely Default has a new system, known as Brave and Default! By selecting default, the character shields themselves for an entire turn, which increases their defense and builds up brave points. Brave points can also be collected by borrowing them from a future turns. Then, if you select the Brave option, you can use these points to land multiple hits on enemy in one turn.

Another option of the battle system gives you the option to freeze time, to give you even more chances to hit the enemy over and over. You can stop time at any point during battle. It consumes sleep points rather than brave points. Sleep points are accumulated while the 3DS is in sleep mode while Bravely Default is running, so make sure to not play the game to… play the game.

Customization is a big part of Bravely Default. It allows you to greatly customize your characters, such as armor, weapons, spell and more. You can also streetpass other players, which will allow you to summon them during battle, or have them help rebuild your home since it has been destroyed by the great chasm (DID SOMEBODY SAY GARRISONS?!).

Along with the game, there will be a Collector’s Edition available, which contains the game, an art book, 34 AR cards, and an original soundtrack CD. Both we be available February 7th.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy

This next game in the Professor Layton series completes the storyline that connects the two trilogies. They must embark on a journey across the world to solve the mystery of a missing mummy. The game brings together a great story and brain-teasing puzzles.

Help Layton and his friends find the missing mummy February 28th.

Nintendo Zone

Nintendo took a moment to remind us of the update that Nintendo Zone received back in October. Whenever you pass a Nintendo Zone, you will streetpass the last 6 people that passed by the Nintendo Zone. Also, keep in look out for item distribution for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which will give items that were originally only available at Best Buy throughout the month. There will be also a special exclusive item block for Super Mario 3D Land, and special Mii distributions as well.

Nintendo 3DS System Update

Sometime in December, we will finally be able to link our balances with our Wii U eShop’s balance. This will be done by linking our Nintendo Network ID to our Nintendo 3DSs. Also coming with the update is 3DS Miiverse! The great twitter-like app that was packaged with the Wii U is coming to the 3DS, with brand new communities for Nintendo 3DS games.

Also, 3DS owners will have a YouTube app, which will allow you to watch a video on the top screen, while searching for videos on the bottom screen. I addition, the YouTube app on the Wii U is getting an update, so it will no longer require the use of a TV, which I found to be its major flaw.

Pikmin 3

Starting December 2nd, Nintendo will be sending out Round 3 of its Pikmin 3 DLC, which includes 8 stages total. 4 of these stages are Collect Treasure stages, while the other 4 are Battle Enemies stages. Along with this DLC, you will be required to download an update for the game, which will give you one of each for free.

Animal Crossing Plaza

Remember the AC Plaza that Nintendo released for the Wii U that served no purpose whatsoever?

Yeah me neither.

The plaza will be receiving an update that will allow you to use stamps on Miiverse through the app. There are 50+ Animal Crossing themed stamps. Super Mario 3D World will also be getting the same treatment. However, you can only use these stamps when posting from their titles.

Another change to the plaza is poll-themed questions, where people will share their opinions on questions Nintendo asks. Other features that will be coming in the future are Resident Registration, which will allow you to bring your neighbors over from New Leaf, the ability to move and delete multiple pictures, and to save images from Animal Crossing Plaza Post List to your album.

The update should be available RIGHT NOW.
