Mechanist Game’s upcoming browser-based MMORPG, City of Steam, has been officially greenlit by Valve, effectively securing it a spot on the premier digital download service. The company had been working on a Greenlight Campaign since December of last year to garner enough votes to be featured on Steam, and since then has secured an impressive 48,757 votes in favor of bringing the game to the service.
To put things in perspective, out of the 1195 games vying to be greenlit on Steam, only 18 games were given final approval to be featured on the service. City of Steam’s 48,757 votes landed the game an impressive 8th or 9th place, as the game was teetering between the two positions when the project was approved.
Now that Mechanist Games have been declared victorious, and are able to bring City of Steam to a wider audience through Steam, fans can look forward to a host of new additions to game’s next beta which the company had previously promised. Some of which include jetpacks, allowing you to cruise around the Nexus in style, along with the addition of new pets to accompany your character as they make their mark on the world.
While the final release of the game is still a while away, having the game greenlit is a huge victory for Mechanist Games and City of Steam. You can read the company’s full announcement of the greenlight campaign here, along with more news and happenings in the City of Steam community.
